Research & EvidenceFoundations Packet

Built on research.
Aligned with ESSA.

Every SchoolsPLP course is developed through a dual-lens approach, grounded in educational research and anchored in state and national academic standards. The result is curriculum that is both academically rigorous and instructionally sound.

Four research traditions. One coherent course.

Cognitive Load Theory

Working memory has limited capacity. Effective instruction minimizes extraneous load and supports schema building for retention.

How SchoolsPLP applies it
  • Lessons chunked into Starter → Objective → Instruction → Refresher
  • Visuals and text coordinated rather than competing
  • Guided Notes promote schema building and germane load

Bloom, 1956

Bloom's Taxonomy

A hierarchy of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills used to structure curriculum from recall through creation.

How SchoolsPLP applies it
  • Lesson → Knowledge & Understanding
  • Guided Notes → Application & Analysis
  • Assignments → Evaluation & Creation
  • Summary & Reflection → Metacognition & Transfer

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

Learning environments should be flexible, inclusive, and accessible by design, not retrofitted after barriers arise.

How SchoolsPLP applies it
  • Subtitles, transcripts, and translation tools
  • Multi-modal lessons: visual, auditory, reading/writing, kinesthetic
  • Flexible submissions: text, audio, or video
  • Read-aloud tools and video gating for engagement

Formative Assessment

Ongoing, low-stakes assessment that drives feedback and instruction, turning evaluation into a learning tool.

How SchoolsPLP applies it
  • Lesson-level comprehension checks
  • Unit pre-tests establish baseline and measure growth
  • Reflections build self-monitoring
  • Teacher feedback in text, audio, or video

SchoolsPLP meets ESSA by design.

Tier IV, Demonstrates a Rationale

ESSA, passed in 2015 following NCLB, ensures equity and accountability in school instruction. Arguably the most important element of equity is personalization, which happens to be the first P in SchoolsPLP (Personalized Learning Platform).

Inequity is often the result of one-size-fits-all instruction. With proper accommodations, personalized instructional styles, and data-driven instruction, SchoolsPLP closes the gaps between high and low learners, and offers intervention and extended learning based on student need.

Protections for high-need students

Differentiation in settings (attempt limits, mastery thresholds), content (multiple publishers and instructional designs), and instruction (multimedia, alternative assessments, virtual math tutoring, real-time communication).

High academic standards for every student

Core and CTE catalogs aligned to rigorous college- and career-ready standards. Teachers personalize content for remediation or extension at the group or individual level through the Learning Plan.

Information for stakeholders

Data dashboards, reports, and tracking tools surface progress in real time. Parent access through messaging and dashboards keeps schools, families, and students aligned.

Accountability & action

Flexible, asynchronous, work-from-anywhere learning addresses disengagement, low progress, and low graduation rates, closing achievement and access gaps in at-risk environments.
